Court Wades Shallowly Into Church and State
There was a public land in the memory of the people that died in World War 1 and there was a dispute of a cross in the Mojave National Preserve. Congress thought it could solve the problem by converting the part of the land that hold the cross to private property but people of course started a dispute. The Congress wants to dissociate the government from the memorial but people say if the land was not a memorial it would revert to the federal government. The Supreme Court has been trying to avoid talking about this issue because our first amendment allows to believe in any belief we want (freedom of religion). “The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 0th Circuit that a cross on public land is unconstitutional. This case is called the Salazar v. Buono. I really don’t see what is the big deal. I understand that it is public property but they want to express themselves so I don’t see it a big deal.
Obama urged to Intensity Push for Climate Measure

“The Nobel committee’s announcement Friday that Obama won the Peace Prize was a fresh reminder that much of the world expects him to lead the way toward a global climate pact.”

I am unsure why Obama received a Noble Peace prize because all his work is in progress and I have not seen any achievement. I also agree with Senator John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) that Obama should be more aggressive to Congress to Limit pollution that contributes to global warming. There are many disputes between what is good for the environment and also what is good to the oil industries. Also “we don’t see personal leadership from the president in helping the Senate find a bill that can get 60 votes.” Also I think our government is concentrated on the Health Care bill that they are forgetting about the other issues in our countries like this one.

New Bill Would Raise Rates, Says Insurance Group

“Insurance industry plan struck against the effort on Monday with a report warning that the typical family premium in 2019 could cost $4,000 more than projected.”
I feel like we are not going anywhere with the Health Care Reform. If we agree with any of the bills presented we will deserve everything coming towards us from higher insurance cost and higher taxes cost to help pay for Medicaid, Medicare, and Veterans Care. I can’t believe Max Baucus is confident on his ten year, $829 billion legislation. I have a feeling that it won’t past because it costs a lot. There is also a doubt whether the government would be able to cover millions of uninsured Americans while still using little money. I also think we should get rid of for-profit healthcare and go for the public option. There’s many bills that want to arrive to the floor debate, but there is a lot more to do satisfy everybody.

All the President’s Men Blog

I think this Watergate scandal would have frustrated and angered many people because we rely on our government to keep us in order. So to see our government doing a crime changes everybody’s idea of our government. The executive of course was involved with everything. From the independent agencies to the cabinets and eventually the president. Of course you know the president was involved because he is the leader of everything and for him not to know would say that our president Nixon was dumb and irresponsible for not fulfilling his job. I criticize all of the branches for this scandal. The judicial and legislative branch was not checking and balancing the executive branch. The executive branch was able to use the extra money in our government to the burglary at the Watergate. If it would have happened now, I wouldn’t trust our government anymore and I would have a re-election for every position in our government from the judicial branch to the executive branch because it seems like nobody is doing their job but if somebody were to keep its job that is not in the executive branch must show why we should keep them there. Including, the executive branch hired Cuban burglars and we don’t associate ourselves with Cuba except the Guantanmo Bay. If this would have happened now, I would have good summary to write for my US government but also would be disappointed in my government and wouldn’t trust them again.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton

Congresswoman Norton on Oct. 1, 2009 talked about gay marriage and the department of transportation to support training funds. My representative is from DC so she can’t vote. She is for gay marriage and she will fight against opposition to gay marriage. The case will be introduced to the DC Council. On Oct. 1, 2009 at the Transportation and Infrastructure Hearing, Norton got support for her bill from the Secretary of the DC Department of Transportation, Ray LaHood. In the bill was that federal highway had to fund to “ on the job training to combat a serious training deficit.” It also assured that women and minorities received jobs in the highway construction. I think this two acts were good to talk about and I am all for both them.

G-20 Summit

In Pittsburgh, the twenty riches countries came together Sept. 25, 2009 to discuss the recession. “ IMF Reform ‘Bright Spot’ of G-20 Summit -China Vice Foreign Min” article talked about He Yafei, China’s vice foreign affairs minister giving his opinion on the International Monetary Fund. IMF was a plan to fix the world economy and He said it “is a bright spot of the Pittsburgh summit.” Another person that talked about the G-20 summit was an Argentine official who said that “the countries agreed on a 5 % increase in developing nations’ shares under the IMF quota system.” The Argentine official suggested that improving countries could have a chance to host the summit in their country but they must have some principles such as: justice and fairness. The Argentine official also said for China to host would be a “serious consideration.” “Leades of G-20 Vow to Reshape Global Economy” had similar things from the article above but it also talked about how “exporting dominating” countries should consume and invest more at home. Also the other countries such as China, Japan, and Germany should buy more supplies from America because they import more than exporting. “The agreements, if carried out by national governments, would lead to much tighter regulation over financial institutions, complex financial instruments and executive pay.”

Liberal or Conservative

In Think Progress, I was reading the headlines and brief summaries of articles and noticed that they are moderate authors. In one of the articles, they were defending Representative Michelle Bachmann(R) and Sarah Palin from the Democrats because they are not trying to let them have a voice. A NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that a conservative news reporter Limbaugh would not be welcomed to the league because of his past hateful languages made Limbaugh unqualified. In Political Punch, the liberal authors talk about how Michelle, the first lady, is helping with healthy diets and also for children and adults to exercise. Also that a noble Jury defended Obama for his noble peace prize given to him last Friday. It also talked about how Democrats are close the health care bill but it is not there yet.
